Solidarity Statement on Racial Justice:
CoRenewal was founded on principles of environmental justice and the belief that through collaboration and connection, we can heal some of the toxic wounds that disproportionately affect some within our human community. The Black Community is particularly affected by systemic oppression, inequities within the criminal justice system, and the current Covid-19 pandemic. The culture of white supremacy is a toxic wound that we must seek to address and heal.
As a US-based nonprofit organization, we acknowledge our host of privileges and stand in solidarity with those in the struggle for justice. We acknowledge that our inherent biases run deep and we are each responsible for unlearning racism. Furthermore, we commit to addressing our own role in systems of oppression. We must learn, listen and adapt, even when it is uncomfortable to do so. CoRenewal is committed to interrogating our own blind spots and exploring what we can do -- in our practices, our teaching and outreach, our research, our community engagement, and our interpersonal interactions. We reaffirm our commitment to becoming more supportive partners to our human and ecological community members who deserve better.
We ask that you join us, and together we can create a more just world. Have conversations about dismantling racism with your friends, family and colleagues. Spread the word about it in your area, or donate to organizations that are organizing for justice, and explore the resources and tools that you can use.
With love and solidarity,
The CoRenewal Board of Directors
